Investigation 1 + 2 (Miniseries)
Guiding Question(s): How does using primary colors on an object affect its mood?
Materials used: Phone camera, digital art program, pen brush + screentones
Processes used: Took a personal photo of some flowers in my front yard. Studied the effects that the natural colors had on the mood of the flowers upon viewing it. Then overlayed bright, bold colors over the natural ones to change the impact upon viewing.

Investigation 5
Guiding Question(s): What colors bring out the character of a room?
Materials used: Marker, pen, ruler Processes used: Direct observation sketch of the kitchen in my mom's apartment. Lined using a straight edge + .03 lining pen to line the piece, then colored section by section. Layered darker/more vivid oranges/yellows to recreate the shading in reality. Size: 7 x 7 |
Investigation 6 - 8Guiding Question(s): What is one way to influence a character's expression? How can body type enhance the personality of a character?
Materials used: Marker, pen, digital Processes used: Direct observational drawings of objects around the house. Isolated the silhouettes of each object, using them as the base for a character's body type. Developed the personality of each character through the visual shape of their body type. Size: 3 x 10 |
Investigation 9Guiding Question(s): How does color influence/enhance a character's expression?
Materials used: digital, pen brush, flat colors Processes used: six poses of a character. One standard pose with colors relevant to reality, five poses that match a specific emotion. Each of the five poses has a specific color that enhances the emotion expressed. Size: 11 x 14 |
Investigation Summary
Guiding Questions: How does color/characterization join together to influence character creation?
My investigation shows evidence of practice, experimentation, and revision through the development of concepts. I played around with different mediums and techniques, specific examples being my experimentation with layering flat colors to create detail in I2 and the use of screentones in I1. I've also been able to develop my vision in terms of understanding a consistent flow or path within my work. I transitioned from direct observation of objects and a focus on technical skills, applying what I learned to a more imaginative process (the factors of character creation). The main theme of my work is taking reality and transforming it into the imaginative.
